Cumbria and Appleby's Very Own Independent Wine Shop & Cafe Bar
We have finally opened our Wine Shop and Cafe! The cafe boasts the very best in traditional large espresso machines and has a reputation for the best coffee in Appleby! Karen and her team cook Crepes, Paninis and Drop Scones to order all through the day and at Lunchtime the cafe menu is supplemented with fish and chips. Fresh homemade cakes and scones add to the temptations!!!
Nigel has always had a keen interest in wine and did not take any persuasion to run the wine lists in our two restaurants. He has been importing wine now for some 10 years both for his own cellar and for the hotels and it is a natural progression to have a wine shop. He is very keen to do alot more importing and expand what we offer.
The ethos behind the shop is to offer wines, spirits and gifts that you cannot get elsewhere, particularly at a supermarket! At prices that offer value for money. To this end we make our own pickles, marmalade, jams and christmas puddings, and stock a range of wines at all price levels. We have a constantly changing range of special offers at all price levels. Our gift boxes make special presents perhaps for your host on a fishing or shooting trip. We stock the unusual from the very best sherries from Lustau, to rare old Bas Armagnacs from Gascogny and the very finest grappa from Italy.

2011 Domaine Pascal Bellier Cheverny Blanc (£131.40 delivery included)
Tasting Note
Family owned for 20 years; 40 ha estate on clay/chalk soils; very hands-on approach; certified Terra Vitis agricultural practices hand weeding; organic fertilisers; clonal selection for healthy vines so little to no disease. Cheverny is the only AOC appellation that allows Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to be blended making it very unusual and a great Loire alternative to Sancerre and Poiully Fume.
2011 Domaine Octavie Touraine Sauvignon (£119.40 delivery included)
Tasting Note
Again a lovely elegant Loire wine, a favourite of mine when you get a good one! That offers real value compared to Sancerre and Poiully Fume. Pale yellow with lime flecks. Soft and elegant, the nose is floral, with jasmine tones and a touch of greengages. The flavours start soft, fresh and fruity with a touch of apricot and lovely balanced acidity, then the delightful tang of cooked rhubarb in the mid-palate. The great concentration of fruit in this big mouth filling wine softens out with hints of nectarine.
2011 Domaine Pascal Bouchard Chablis (£131.40 delivery included)
Tasting Note
Our house Chablis for years, used by BA first class it just does everything that Chablis should! The nose is generous with elegant and subtle shades of fruit, dominated by apples and peaches. The mineral character of this Chablis, almost gun-flinty, is the flavour that persists after the lively straight forward taste which characterizes all of Chablis. Rich, full and long on the palate.
A mixed case of 4 of each wine £127.40 delivery included
PRIVATE PARTIES Our wine shop and bar is available for wine tastings and private parties. These events make great and unusual presents. Parties are welcome from 10 to 16 people, let us help make your special occassion a little bit different!
