Your Restaurant in Appleby for fine food & wine. One of the Restaurants in Cumbria
Built up over 19 years of service the Tufton Arms is justly proud of it's longstanding reputation for running a noted restaurant in Appleby as well as a hotel. Our style is to allow good food to do the talking, and when accompanied by our award winning wine list and combined with the elegance of the Conservatory Restaurant you can be assured that we are one of the restaurants in Cumbria worthy of your special occasion.
Our menus created by Chef Donna Park in combination with Executive Chef David Milsom offer something for everyone and every occasion. Fresh local produce from the Appleby area combined with sound cooking techniques give delicious classic dishes with a modern twist. Sunday lunchtimes are traditional with a complete sirloin of beef from local butchers, Ewbanks carved at the table. We would claim to lay on one of the best sunday lunches anywhere let alone from other restaurants in Cumbria.
Long before food miles became fashionable we have always had a policy of buying locally, provided that the quality of the produce measured up to our high expectations. Fortunately it always has. From Ewbanks butchers immediately next door to the hotel providing beef from their own farm and Mrs Ewbanks legendary cumberland sausages for breakfast and Stephensons greengrocers opposite to a few miles further a field to The Appleby Creamery producing a range of cheeses with milk from local farms. We are also proud to use supplies from the now famous Cranstons of Penrith and The Saddleback Smokery of Plumpton who process our own grouse and pheasants as well as supplying other local produce.
No restaurant in Appleby, Cumbria or anywhere else would be complete with out a decent wine list and ours will not disappoint. Nigel Milsom has a lifelong passion for wine and our wine list continues to grow! We now import many wines ourselves directly from France, Italy and Spain as well as using wines from our old family friends at Lay and Wheeler wine merchants, ensuring that our list offers both diversity and value for money.
