The Tufton Arms Hotel has been a famous fishing destination since Victorian times. Appleby is situated in a large loop of the River Eden, and is surrounded by superb wild brown trout fishing and grayling fishing. The owners of the Tufton Arms - The Milsoms are all keen fisherman and will ensure that your trout fishing break is a special one.
Come fly fishing for wild brown trout on some 16 miles of the famous River Eden and it's tributaries all within close reach of the hotel. Try bustard fishing in the late evening for the larger brownies that lurk in the deeper pools to round of a different fishing break.
Whether you are an experienced fisherman or a complete flyfishing beginner everybody is welcome. We are proud of our long association with John Pape who has been teaching beginners fly fishing for some 40 years. His 4 day tuition courses offer a perfect fishing break as well as the opportunity to learn and enjoy this time honoured art. However if you just wish to try trout fishing for the first time we can also offer experienced ghillies for the day, and can loan equipment and tackle so that you can sample the excitement and see if a wild brown trout fishing break is for you.
We also offer both salmon fishing breaks and trout fishing on the middle and lower River Eden. Again we can offer ghillies who are also happy to start you off salmon fishing or indeed speycasting.
